These are the expectations for this class:

Musical Theatre Performance is a class for youth from 9-17 years old. No experience is necessary for this class – we have a team of professionals ready to meet you where you are and to develop your skills to make a show that is audience-ready.

There is an expectation that everyone will attend all rehearsals. Please read the schedule (scroll down!) and make sure that this is a commitment that you can make, before you register for class. Every student registered will be on stage for every show. We alternate roles and chorus to give more young people a chance to take on speaking roles, and to give everyone a chance to work as part of the chorus. Rehearsals are in the Bottle Tree Studio at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 130 Clergy St E. Parking is on the street or in the municipal lot on Queen Street.

No one needs to audition to be in the class, and therefore in the show. We coach auditions with the class, and we sort character casting based on many factors. We value respectful behaviour, effort, and teamwork in all of our work, and especially in productions.

Each actor will be cast in at least two roles, one ‘main’ role and one ‘chorus’ role. We name each iteration of the cast (for example, the Beetlejuice casts were call ‘Overworld’ and ‘Underworld’). Casts alternate performances, so that for five performances, actors are in their ‘main’ roles, and for the other five, they are in chorus. This allows for a more well-rounded experience for all performers.

The show run is ten performances spaced over two weeks, in April/May. Show runs typically require the week prior to be an intense, busy time, so block out four weeks from mid-April to mid-May, and I will update when we have the exact timing down.

Performances run over a two-week period in April/May. Performances are Thursday – Saturdays @7pm, with matinees @ 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays. It is not yet decided if our run will be April 23-May 3 (Hell Week April 13-22) or April 30-May 10 (Hell Week April 20-29) Everyone is expected to help strike the show on the last Sunday afternoon. Performances will take place in the Sanctuary at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
